Linking Open Data to Your Research Articles: A Workshop for Academics in the Social Sciences and Humanities
On November 12, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00 in room A1.03, Campus East, a workshop titled "Linking Open Data to Your Research Articles" will take place. This event is organized by the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society, in collaboration with CCDigitallaw and USI’s eLearning Lab. It is part of the project “Open Data Strategy for the USI journal SComS,” financed by USI's Open Science and Open Research Data initiatives.
The workshop is designed for academics in the social sciences and humanities, focusing on the advantages and challenges of open data. Participants will receive practical guidance on data publication, learn about available data repositories, and explore key legal and ethical considerations related to open data. The workshop will be led by Prof. Katharina Lobinger, Dr. Anna Picco-Schwendener, MLaw Suzanna Marazza, Dr. Federico Lucchesi, and Pasqualina Sibio.
As the significance of Open Science continues to grow, it also raises important ethical and legal questions. Within this Open Science and Open Research Data project, led by Prof. Katharina Lobinger and Dr. Anna Picco-Schwendener, benchmark analyses of existing data repositories and Open Data Policies of research journals and organizations were carried out. A key objective was to develop an Open Data Policy for the USI journal “Studies in Communication Sciences” (SComS, https://www.hope.uzh.ch/scoms/). This effort identified best practices and guidelines particularly relevant to scholars in the social sciences and humanities. These findings will now be shared during the workshop with USI academics.
After the workshop, an apero will provide the opportunity to continue discussions in an informal setting.
